When I first saw you… in a penciled drawing by my dad…

you became an adored sketch I had to have…

A sketch of a shimmery water filled clear glass jar…

holding within it… you and yours…

sun drenched yellow forsythia stars…

You were first, a sketched original drawing, gifted to a friend…

Dad’s wife… my mom… both whose love will never end…

Her giving heart allowed her to share with me… you…

So what did I choose to do… a beautiful twin print was made…

as delightful as the original… a bright and perfect ode…

My own print makes my heart smile too…

Mom and dad,

I thank you…

you will always be in the most amazing place…

My most serene and retreat like space…

Another home of my first home…

a home of my very own heart…

a home that will consistently be part…

of my deeply cherished moments and memories…

experiences that will be joy-filled and full with laughter…

I look forward to each new and thoughtful chapter…

I am grateful…

for you…

Original penciled work… you so charmingly decorate…

my mother’s cultivated brick wall…

precisely sketched, lightly colored and all…

I love waking up to see you, at times, my first splendid sight…

When I focus on you… it makes everything right…

It’s because of the heart of the man who created you…

A heart belonging to my dad… A heart…

so amazingly brilliant

and true…

 

Dad,

I’m so humbled by your presence and your grace…

your gentle touch in every penciled trace…

I see and feel your softness… in everything you do…

for your way with us… with life overall…

is indeed compassionate and tender too…

I am beholden… that we were the ones chosen…

to be your loved ones…

a blessing from The Almighty…

and of course, from…

You…

We have the capacity and potential to always be a blessing in our own lives, in the lives of others and in this magical and magnificent world of ours…
