Fashion is, plainly, a word to define

a format or medium…

Style is entirely You… It is how you feel…

put into an expression…

that happens to be tangible…

More adventurous forays through storage… Within the period of my family’s latest move, mom and I took the opportunity to once more sift through our belongings… Albeit, there were plenty… to let go of… There were also many items to hold-on to… Some things included clothing I wore in high school and college mom decided to keep… Years back I had intended to donate my old clothing, which is what I’d normally done, or pass them down to my nieces, once they were in the picture… Little did I know that my old clothing, I thought I had no further use for, would end up back in my closet… And it just so happens they all still fit, perfectly…

While mom and I were rummaging through bins and clothing chests, pulling out clothing that belonged to her, my brothers, my oldest niece and to me, we shared stories about some of the pieces… Mom gave me the side eye a few times, when I reminded her some of her wear, for example, kool leather jackets I convinced her to buy for herself, ended up being for me (smile)… This was during my high school years… I will say, she did have a chance to wear them at least a couple or more times… I will also say, mom and I had similar taste back then… She along with other close relatives were my first style icons… Truthfully, most of the ladies and gents in my family and in their adult friend circle have an eye for the more decorative way of wearing clothing… Passion for fashion runs pretty deep in my inner circles…

It is no wonder why I adore dressing up… Women and men, on both sides of my family, made fashion an artful experience…  Between dress hats and dress shoes, one could only guess what the men and women in my family would step out of their homes in… It was quite a fashion show in our own homes, churches, family gatherings, community events and more… You might even find a woman in heels at a family member’s or friend’s cookout… Is this why I mowed my lawn in stiletto heels… hmmmmm… Or you might find an uncle or another male relative in a wide brimmed hat at a fairly casual affair; it depended on the mood of the individual and what they were ready to show off… Yes, we loved to show off our new and/or favored digs…

How times change… During earlier years, it was a treat to get a new outfit, regardless of the occasion… It, too, was quite a joy to have new clothing and ones’ own expressive material showcase noticed and admired by others… In my former years, I took my time with clothing… deciding what I wanted to wear… pressing my wear to give it the appearance of being new, if my clothing had already been worn and washed, and to give it a neat and clean look… I also made sure everything matched, colors and designs, etc… The small details really mattered to me when it came to my style of dress… Today, I still love the fresh and unique styles that are designed, made and put out, but I so deeply cherish the old and what might seem to be odd clothing, shoes and accessories… I no longer concern myself with how new something appears… I am more interested in how artistic I can make a piece or pieces look…  If you’re not already aware, simple is very artistic to me… Neat and matching are not quite in the frame of my style these days… Worn, due to being a used or favored item, yet still in excellent condition, is for me complimentary… And contrast is for me… to standout… It’s art that has its own language…

I am experiencing a bit of happiness with my new old clothing… I am looking forward to wearing them again… I already have ideas in mind regarding what I want to wear with the pants, dresses and skirts I owned in my teenage years and in my twenties… I didn’t wear sneakers much then… Can you believe that… I seem to always have them on now… I even like wearing sneakers with dress pants, skirts and formal dresses… Not back in high school and college… You could barely get me into a pair of sweat pants in high school and college, although I did enjoy dancing, sports and working out… I happen to like the thought of wearing sweat pants with heels… Stay tuned to how I will make the old become new… I’ll share my ensembles within the upcoming media I put out as part of the Unif(eyed) Colors Campaign “Fashion ~N~ Frame(s).”  For more about this visit: partnersingoodwill.com

I am thankful to my mom for having wisdom to hold on to clothing I felt I had no further use for… Her eyes were able to see different… She saw the value in each piece and was able to get me to see the same… Not only am I able to see the value of my old clothing, I am inspired by the artistic ideas they will bring out of me… I am sure some of these ideas will be very different than the ones I had during the earlier years I made use of these wears… Perhaps some of these ideas will come from the stories mom and I have shared… Perhaps they will come from this new era of love and freedom we are in… Perhaps they will disclose to me their own story and mood which will influence something more beautiful about them… Either way, they are their own unique pieces… And by the way, I have inherited more of my mom’s quite stylish digs too… BIG Smile…  And what I’ve inherited from family and friends, well, you’ll get to see those too… Yes! I’m excited about what’s coming within the frame of fashion… Keep watching…
