Making Home… Experiencing Serenity… And Enjoyment… In The Season of Winter..

My family and I enjoyed our holidays on the road. It was a time for us to spend our days in special places with special people. Perhaps, for some the holidays are spent at one’s own home with relatives and close friends. This year being on the road during the holiday season gave us the chance to meet new relatives and new friends. Before starting our travels, I was excited about what was planned for my family and me. Time for adventure… Time for rest… time for relaxing… time to sit quietly with one another and enjoy the winter views or simply to engage in casual conversation. And, of course, time for scrumptious homemade meals, desserts and yummy beverages.

Our holiday season on the road led us to visit different locations while away. Albeit, some of these locations were new to us we still felt a connection as though we had been to them before. It was quite extraordinary to know that there was indeed history we could relate to. I didn’t stop my car, pull over to the side of the road to capture images of the places we were in as I would usually do, however, the snow slowed us down enough to capture the places we were in in another way. We drove slowly during much of our travels away due to the snow fall, yet the snow was festive.

The snow didn’t slow us down enough to keep us away from our shopping spree. My family and I enjoyed thoughtful exchanges with one another for the holidays, but once the holidays passed and the stores were ready to prepare for the new season to come we decided to help them. Mom and I did most of the shopping. It was fun trying on new clothing, dressing up and making ourselves look and feel pretty. It as well was simply fun to have a ladies day out, although my brother was with us. He encouraged it and ended up with new clothes too.

More cherished moments, relationships and friends. Though my family and I were off on another adventure on the road during and after the holidays, we were grateful to have the time to do what I hoped we would. We made more time for ourselves and for one another. We allowed ourselves to “make home” or simply experience home by doing what we would normally do while home.

Making home… experiencing serenity… and enjoyment. In each space my family and I spent time in while away we had a spot or place we could simply have solitude or gather in. Most times it was a space where we could comfortably sit, break bread and/or drink a warm beverage and share. Our serenity wasn’t just from the quiet, sometimes it was from how and what we shared. And our enjoyment wasn’t just because of what brought smiles and laughter, it too came from plainly allowing for stillness, having nothing to do and being open to spontaneity. In the winter season Nature let it snow… we slowed down… we gave to ourselves and to one another… we created time for silence and time for conversation… and time for smiles and laughter with relatives and friends, existing and new, away, but still at home.

We have the capacity and potential to always be a blessing in our own lives, in the lives of others and in this magical and magnificent world of ours…
