Tea Time… Tea of many varieties and flavors has continually been one of my favorite beverages. I’ve enjoyed packaged teas, hand-crafted loose teas and organic garden picked teas. Over the years I’ve learned about greens, whites, yellows, wulongs (oolongs), blacks, darks, puers, reds, herbals, blends and more… In earlier years, though all of the above teas were in my life in one way or another, there were mostly just a few popular teas my family and I consumed. Irregardless, tea was for the most part like any other beverages available in our home.
In our home tea was served in a traditional way, with either sugar, honey, lemon and/or milk. I usually had my tea with honey and sometimes included lemon. There was no specific time to have tea. We usually had a cup or two when we had the taste for tea or when during the colder seasons we simply wanted a warm drink. Later in my young adult life tea became a more regular beverage. A warm cup of tea usually accompanied my morning breakfast and too became an after dinner infusion. Albeit, I drank tea more regularly, I continued to have mostly those I was familiar with during my childhood and those introduced to me by family and friends.
As my travels increased and my relatives’ and friends’ wisdom and influence became even more intriguing, I began to open myself to additional experiences. As well my palate for different flavors led me to try different foods and drinks. Therefore, while picking up groceries, visiting boutique and variety shops and dining out my selection of ingredients, including teas grew. Since tea has indeed been quite a popular beverage in my life and home, I began to read books about tea, learn new recipes, familiarize myself with conventional and unconventional customs and etiquettes around tea, attend tea ceremonies and gatherings and, of course, drink more tea.

A Tea Time Affair…. Attending tea ceremonies and gatherings are delightful. I get to enjoy new varieties and flavors of teas. I get to make my taste buds smile; I get to grow my favorite selections; I get to pair different teas with the perfect bites of sweets and savories. I get to have light yet engaging conversations; I get to dress up as a lady in timeless fashion or simply dress in more casual attire; I get to witness history, culture and tradition unfold, past, present and future, apart and together. I get to step into places of yesterday’s and today’s time, including beautiful and pristine floral gardens, colorful, gorgeously landscaped private and public grounds, small and large well kept and decorated lavish and too humble homes; I get to honor old relationships and new acquaintances, I get to have fun, enjoy and cherish moments in life with my elders, my relatives and my friends. I too get to travel the world through a beverage or drink called tea while in a place that both keeps me and welcomes me home. High tea… Low tea… Welcome To This Place… Welcome To This Home…
