The view is gorgeous. My older brother and I are sitting near a familiar lake on a bright and slightly cool Autumn day watching two squirrels play. Watching them scurry around a large oak tree in front of the house my father grew up in made my older brother and me giggle. It looks like they’re playing hide and seek. While watching the squirrels my thoughts are too on the many trees surrounding me. Leaves from the trees have changed their color from mostly brilliant greens to vivid golds, auburns and reds. The all encompassing view around the lake and trees look like a water color painting.

Much of my childhood was spent exploring the outdoors. My older brother and I explored through play in the yards outside of our homes and in our local parks. We loved being outdoors. During the Autumn while the leaves were crisp and mostly in bunches and in piles on the ground we enjoyed frolicking in them. It was fun to swim in the leaves, toss them into the air and watch them rain down over us. Our play in the crisp, vibrantly colored leaves describes part of my childhood experience during Autumn’s in New England.

After graduating from college and more travel, including with friends, I developed an even greater appreciation for the offerings and beauty of fall. Those of my friends who lived outside of New England came to my home state, Connecticut, just to witness the vitality of the Autumn colors here. We as well traveled to and/or through other New England states nearby to take in their own colorful landscapes. It was inspiring and pleasing to have individuals in my life, including my friends, who loved Nature as I did. On our travels my friends and I didn’t play in the crisp, colorful leaves the way my older bother and I played as children, yet the view of New England’s trees with their painted foliage allowed us to experience too the agelessness of youth.

As life continues my love for each season grows. There are extraordinary treasures found during the entire year, yet no treasure is the same just as no season is the same. Each interlude of time makes present new gifts and experiences. I love that my family and friends can too appreciate some of the same joys afforded to us by Nature. We are again within the season of Autumn. My older brother and I are adults now. Nonetheless, being outdoors, gathering in our hands the crisp and vibrantly colored leaves that sit in bunches and in piles near my dad’s home, tossing them into the air by the lake while under the trees and watching them rain down in front of us is for me, A Picturesque View Of New England’s Fall. BIG SMILE.
