Infinity… Infinity… Infinity… Collars… Scarves… Shawls… and More…

In the beginning…

there was… just the first yarn loop…

then the creations… themselves…

in beautiful styles… and in bright… vibrant colors…

When I walked into my hand knitting class at Joann’s with my mom… we were prepared to learn from our instructor how to hand knit a traditional neck scarf with loop yarn… Each of the individuals in class had a skein of loop yarn picked out for ourselves we would use… We, independently of our instructor, decided on the color we wanted our scarf to be… I picked out a very pretty, bright, autumn color called, Cherry Bloom… Mom picked out a skein of loop yarn with a mix of white and grays… Reviewing some of the personal projects by our instructor… and seeing other examples of how loop yarn could be used, did not, initially, provide me with an indication of how easy or difficult it would be to hand knit a scarf… Regardless, I was excited and ready to hand knit my scarf…

Our instructor pointed out to those of us in class the specifics of the loop yarn we each had… which entailed: the article number, color number, net weight and the fiber of the yarn, etc… It might seem these small details were not important, but they were very important, especially if you required more than one skein of yarn for your project… and to decide whether the yarn fiber used was what you actually wanted… The type of fiber used would make a difference in the texture and appearance of the article being made… Once we learned the specifics of the yarn we had… we then learned about the different stitches we could use to make our scarves, such as plain or purl stitch… The stitch would determine the overall look of the scarf… I learned as much as possible about the specifics of my yarn and what I could do with it while in class… because I wanted my scarf to come out perfect…

After all questions were answered by our instructor, then came our instructor’s questions… “What length and width would you like your scarf to be…” “What stitch would you like to work with…” HmmmmmSince I hadn’t ever hand knitted a scarf with loop yarn or any other yarn… I had to take a few moments to think about the questions… Once considering the questions more thoroughly, I decided… I want to make something different… I will make a hooded infinity shawl… When I shared with my instructor what I had in mind, and shared with her the length, the width and look of the shawl I wanted, she said, “Okay… you’ll need more than one skein of yarn…” and “I don’t think you’ll complete your project while in tonight’s class…” Truthfully, I was hoping I would be able to complete my first project in the 3 hours we had… Mostly, because… in class I had both the encouragement and support of my instructor… and because I had to learn how to properly knit in the next skein of yarn once the first skein was used…

It took time… focus… more yarn and effort than I originally thought to complete my hooded infinity shawl; nevertheless, after a few weekends of dedicated time… pinpoint focus, to ensure I kept my stitches the same and looking as perfect as possible, and a bit more effort… I was quite happy with my first hand knit shawl… When I put my shawl on… this is when I really felt I had successfully completed my very first project… While modeling my hooded infinity shawl in front of my mirror and for my mom… more ideas came to me regarding different ways I could wear my shawl… As I played with various ways I could style my new creation… it became inevitable that I would indeed make more shawls for myself and for others… in different colors, stitches and designs… I would use them to begin my opening signature hand knit collection… and so the journey began…

Foremost… there was my Cherry Bloom hand knit hooded infinty shawl (as seen in the very first image) I started in class then finished at home… then more home projects included… infinity collars (seen directly above)  made for my family at Christmas time… then there were infinity scarves (seen in the second image and below video) because I love this style of scarf too… At the beginning, I hadn’t thought to add infinity collars to my signature collection… until I completed the ones I made for my family… I loved the variety of colors and styles I made so much… I simply had to include them… not only as separate pieces, but to go with my “Free Life” Couture (Chic) hand knit hats (seen in the video below) I started making too… Whether my infinity collars are worn alone or with my hats, they separately are so fashionably chic… They now happen to be some of my favorite pieces…

InfinityInfinityInfinityCollarsScarvesShawlsand More… Yes, then there came plenty more… including, as already mentioned, my hand knit hats… I am so thrilled about all I have so far produced for my debut signature hand knit collection… that I always look forward to their first public showcase… I’ve already shared a small selection of my knitted works on my web sites, in my blogs and on social media… I am too preparing my creations for other social media platforms, gallery showcases and for in-house and on-line boutique/store availability… If you want to continue to enjoy this journey with me… make sure to stay tuned… There’s lots more coming… BIG SMILE… 🙂
